Geoglyphs
In 1976, Jay von Werlhof, an archaeology professor at Imperial Valley College (IVC) and the founder of the Imperial Valley Desert Museum, joined forces with Harry Casey, a pilot and photographer, to spearhead a project with IVC archaeology students that aimed to discover and capture images of ancient ground drawings. There are at least 300 documented individual earthen art elements in the southeast California and southwestern Arizona. Many have have been lost due to history and vandalism, and some have yet to be discovered as vegetation and the elements may obscure them over time. Below are some photographed panels from IVDM's collections placed by the Bureau of Land Management of the U.S. Department of the Interior near the sites of various geoglyphs.
