Snakes
Western Diamond-backed Rattlesnake
(Crotalus atrox)
Rattlesnake bites can produce extreme pain and swelling at the location of the bite, excessive bleeding, nausea, swelling in the mouth and throat, making it difficult to breathe, lightheadedness, drooling, and even collapse and shock in rare cases.
Checkered Garter Snake
(Thamnophis marcianus)
Checkered garter snakes have venom but are not dangerous to humans. A checkered garter snake's venom is so mild it generally doesn't pose a threat to people. Furthermore, this snake has small teeth, so its bite feels a lot like a sting.
Gopher Snake
(Pituophis catenifer)
Gopher snake bites pack a lot of punch, but they won't cause any long-term damage. The worst reaction will be pain over the bite, but there is no venom.
